THE LAKE IS THE PLAN

Less on the schedule.
More on the water.

Bring your favorite people and leave time for the little things: a quiet paddle, a line in the water, or an evening beside the fire.

01

Paddle at your own pace

A two-person kayak and two single kayaks are available, with paddles and life jackets. Wear a life jacket and check conditions before heading out.

02

Cast a line, or just sit a while

Fishing gear is in the white bin under the porch. The jon boat is stored in the garage; check with Jay about its setup and launch before using it.

03

Stay for the evening

Enjoy the covered porch, cornhole, or the lakeside firepit when conditions allow. The guest guide has gear locations and fire safety details.

The lawn slopes toward the water. Lake levels vary; supervise children closely and never dive headfirst.

Arrival, parking & Wi-Fi

Check-in is after 3 PM; checkout is before 11 AM. For an early arrival, message Jay with your preferred time. It depends on the cleaning schedule and will need confirmation.

Follow Swan Lake Road to the end. The house is on the left at 165 Swan Lake Road, Nortonville, KY 42442. Park in the house driveway and keep the neighbor’s driveway and garage access clear.

Your August front-door code arrives privately before your stay. Enter it on the keypad left of the front door. To lock up, close the door firmly and press the August logo.

Wi-Fi: use the network name and password in your arrival message. If the connection fails, toggle Wi-Fi on your device. Please contact Jay before resetting the router.

See Before you arrive for what to pack, sleeping arrangements, and house policies.

Lights, fans & house controls
  • Behind the TV: ceiling fan controls and outside porch lights/fan.
  • Bathroom by the kitchen: the nearby doorway has kitchen light switches.
  • Behind the living-room couch: the living-room light switch.
  • Patio string lights: plug into the outlet on the right side of the porch ceiling.
  • Back porch fan: use the wall-mounted remote near the porch door.
  • Master bathroom: light switches are behind the sliding barn door.

Turn off lights and fans when leaving. See page 3 of the PDF for photos of the controls.

TV, appliances & porch audio

The living room has a 70-inch HDTV with Roku, and the house has a kitchen and in-home washer. For TV setup, appliance questions, or trash instructions, message Jay for the current details.

Connect to the porch speakers

  1. Find the AMP Symphony 4.1 amplifier on the back-porch column near the string lights.
  2. Turn it on and select BT / Bluetooth.
  3. Open your phone’s Bluetooth settings and select the amplifier. Its displayed name may vary.
  4. Start your music and adjust the volume on your phone and the amp.

Only one phone can connect at a time. Disconnect the previous phone, toggle Bluetooth, or restart the amp if needed. Keep music at a comfortable porch level, especially in the evening.

Kayaks, fishing & outdoor gear

Kayaks: a two-person kayak and two singles are provided, along with paddles and life jackets. Before launching, check water levels and conditions; ask Jay if you need help choosing a safe launch spot.

  • Life jackets are stored in the deck storage.
  • Fishing poles and gear are in the white bin under the porch.
  • Cornhole bags and outdoor cushions are in the deck box. Return them dry.
  • The jon boat is in the garage, with its trolling motor, battery, and tackle. Access details are provided to booked guests.
  • The guide identifies the concrete boat launch on High Street; the trailer needs a 2-inch hitch. Confirm the setup and launch with Jay before use.

Stay off neighboring property, follow applicable boating and fishing rules, and return gear clean and dry.

Lake, dock & firepit safety

No headfirst diving. Water levels and depth change. There is no lifeguard; children need close adult supervision near the water.

  • Wear life jackets in kayaks and the jon boat. Weak swimmers should use them, too.
  • Walk on the dock and lake steps; surfaces can be slippery. Check the water before entering.
  • Leave the water and go indoors at thunder or lightning.
  • The yard slopes down to the lake, with uneven ground.

Firepit

Firewood is under the back porch, and starters are in the white plastic bin beside it. Keep fires small and attended. Fully extinguish with water before leaving. Skip fires in high wind, dry conditions, or during a local burn ban.
